OKONOMI means "what you like" or "what you wish", and YAKI means "grilled" or "cooked". Thus, OKONOMIYAKI means "cook what you like". PON's Osaka-style Okonomiyaki is the predominant version of the dish, found throughout most of Japan. The batter is made of grated nagaimo (a type of yam), kombu broth, eggs, lots of shredded cabbage, and some flour. Okonomiyaki is sometimes compared to omelettes and pancakes, but since it's a dish, you would eat it for lunch or dinner. We prefer it to be referred to as a HEALTHY "Japanese Pizza" or "Osaka Soul Food".
